TR4/4A R&R Oil Pressure Gauge

Hi,

I am looking remove, clean/restore and replace my 52mm small instrument gauges soon. Any special instructions required when reinstalling the oil line on the mechanical oil pressure gauge (i.e. bleed the line)? I plan to renew the little leather washer. Other than that, if I thread the line back on the gauge, am I good to go?

Thanks

Bob

It always seems counterintuitive to me but it's true... the line doesn't require bleeding.

Until the work is completed I would suggest a post-it note on the tach: 'DO NOT START ENGINE'.

I just did mine. Only issue is I can't seem to get the copper washer at the oil filter housing to completely seal. I may be a bit easy on the torque there. Other than the washer (there are two; inner and outer, but different inner diameters), the correct housing stud and that leather washer ( I once made a substitute that worked fine), I'd say you're good. My psi (rebuilt engine) varies of course with engine speed, with idle somewhere around 40 and acceleration 70 psi or more. I'm still fiddling with carbs, hoping I got everything back together correctly.

No new line and have not pulled gauge yet. Hot, I get 40psi @ idle and 70-75psi at 2000-2500 RPM. Running Castrol 10W-40 btw for years.
