On the way home after working on carbs the thing was just barely running. It was "consuming" a great deal of fuel and running very badly. Also the oil pressure gauge was only reading about 10 pounds of pressure, which really had me scared.
Yesterday after replacing the carbs and making sure it would run I changed the oil. What came out was very thin and runny and smelled like oily gasoline. It seems there was a lot more volume than what there should have been as well, and it seems I went through a few gallons of gas in only about 15 miles driving.
I believe at least one gallon ended up in the oil pan.
Now it's full of straight 30W oil, I plan to run it for a few more miles and then change it again.
I'm getting 60 lbs cold, about 35 lbs hot and at speed and 12-15 lbs hot at idle.
Besides apparently cleaning a lot of gunk out of the 50 year old motor, what possible negative impacts should I be watching out for? Any?
It sounds real good when running, there was a bit of smoke at first when I started driving but that seemed to go away after it warmed up.
