OK, So I'm thinking that a TR3A rear apron emblem, (see photo) would look neat if I could figure out a way to bond one to each side of my aluminum valve cover.

My question, does anybody have any ideas about what glue I would use? And more importantly, how I could do it without making a mess.

I went ahead and bought the emblems, at only $9.00 at worst I could set them on my desk at work.

Thanks in advance..

How about Gorilla glue? You could pull an engine with that stuff if it is applied properly. The key is getting it off where it doesn't belong before it dries.

Hmmmm. maybe some good 2 part epoxy, applied sparingly. making sure the back side of the emblem, and the surface of the valve cover are roughened up a bit.
The most secure way would be to make a template of the emblem pin holes and drill the valve cover. then seal the pins when they go through the cover. But I'd be pretty skiddish about drilling holes in the valve cover.
I'd love to see it when your done, it'll look neat. I might do that to my Painted black steel cover on my TR2 (just one on top)

Try Meadows brand Rezi-weld, cartridge gun epoxy.
It has very high sheer strength and will bond
smooth surfaces. Ace hardware carries it at
$22 or so.

20 to 30 minute set up time- so have everything
well prepared in advance. Then hold in place and
be very bored until it sets up. Full cure in 4 hours

Shannon:

Where did you get that emission plate on the left inner fender well? Those darn silver paper plates just wrinkle, no matter what you do. I need the black metal like you have.

Thanks,

Paul,

It came from England.. as for as I know it's the OEM plate. It's bolted onto the fender.

Bunzil,

I'm using a Mallory Unilite dizzy, it doesn't have a tach drive, so I had to have the tach converted over to electric (looks the same only the internals are changed). The wires and coil, mounted on the fenderwell, are Mallory units as well.

I went through 2 dizzys and four rotors before I got smart and went to the Mallory.. it's dead rock solid and the tach never bounces.

Shannon:

I did find it listed in the now extinct TRF body catalog. The only issue is that it says for 1970 vehicle at the bottom of the plate, but that's about what my emissions really are. For state inspection in RI after 25 years old, it really doesn't matter, so if they have em', I'm buying. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

They're listed as CNP602 Emission Label, so I logged in and ordered. One step closer, my friend. one step closer....

Shannon, You beat me to it. I was going to suggest JB Weld. Mainky because of the temperature.

Have you looked at the Think Automotive site? They manufacture the oil filter adapters. In the back of their catalog they sell an oil filler cap that is like the gas cap on the TR. I haven't looked at it in detail, but it might be a nice touch for your retro look valve cover.

OK, where did you get the great emblems at $9.00? I want 3 of them, two for the valvae covers (TR8) and I will replace the cheap looking sticker on the trunk with one too

Cool! Do you know what the website is? I did a search for think automotive but it didn't come up with anything that resembled what you're describing

I got the emblems from TRF... they even had them in stock!!!
