General TR Need help finding remote brake reservoir ....

Does this remote reservoir look like anything you have run across? It says SOVY on the lid. The sleeve surrounding the cork float disintegrated when I tried to free the float. I need it for a 1974 Panther, but it must have been used on other British cars (I hope).

Sorry Mate, Not anything I have seen on TR's or MG's up until the '80's. The TR3 was the last to use a common feed for both masters and it was a solid line to both units. It may be on something much later, but I don't have a clue on much of that other than MINI.

If you haven't already - you might ask on the Lotus forum or other Lotus groups. Mr Chapman tended to raid the parts bin for his cars and may have had something like this.

If originality isn't critical I would think a functional period correct replacement could be fashioned from a pair of reservoirs for an E-Type (also by SOVY I think). Repros for both the reservoir and float are readily available.

BTW -- as far as I know that aluminum encasement around the float does almost nothing -- perhaps buffers the float from sudden movement on fast corners but no effect on braking. Many E-Types with a very similar float are running around with the lower half of that aluminum case missing. Also -- if the float is knackered -- again many E-Types are out there with replacement floats made from wine corks.
