TR2/3/3A Interior rear back panel for 60 TR 3A

Does anyone know of a drawing with dimensions of the interior back panel that hides the gas tank. I have the covering in my panel kit but my car did not have the actual panel to use as a sample. The interior panel kit instructions talk about a wood and metal panel but no dimensions. It would be nice to have a drawing or something to start with. Thanks and have a good day!

Sorry, I don't. Just wrote to warn you that there were several different panels used over the years, and they don't interchange well. ISTR the later cars had a molded piece of fiberboard instead of the metal, but I could be confused.

Randall is correct; the later cars have a molded fiberboard piece that conforms to the shape of the cockpit capping and the inner fenders. It will be very hard to duplicate. This would be an excellent project for TRF or Moss to produce in plastic. Your best bet will be to see if one of the hoarders on the list has one they can sell you.

A 60 TR3 will have the one peice molded hard board. Any of the big three should have it. You don't want to try to form it yourself.

Though those answers assume a 1960 TR3A is, in fact, a 1960. Would be far from unknown for a car built prior to the change point (in 1959) to be registered as a 1960.

For this sort of question, commission number is the best reference.

I agree. The change point should be TS60001, which was built in Oct 59. But no doubt there were some cars built before then that got titled as being 1960 models.

But there were a lot of changes made at the same time, so it's usually pretty obvious whether you're working on a pre- or post- 60K car. The most obvious change is the raised plinths under the hood and trunk hinges, but almost all of the interior panels changed, the doors were a different shape and so on.

My car vin number is 69xxx. VB sells the board already covered at least in an old catalog. Sounds like my car should have the molded back board but can I make a plywood lower section with curved steel top section for my car as I am not concerned about originality. I cannot find it listed in Moss or TRF. Thanks for your input and have a good day!

Shipping may be expensive, but at least the exchange rate is down a little.

Don't see any reason you can't roll your own from steel & plywood. Most likely the molded fiberboard was just cheaper to manufacture, I don't see any reason it would be better.
