Interior Door Handle Removal

Hi all,

I would like to put some new door cards on my 1961 AH 3000 BT7, but I am having problems removing the interior door handles. I can see from the parts manual that they are held on with a pin. I have tried drifting the pin out from both above and below without any luck. Is there a trick to getting the pins out?

Wood is to keep things straight ... until the pin is out

On the roadsters the handle escutcheon can trap the pin if it's not pushed back enough. It has to be pushed back enough. Maybe wood wedges on each side might help, but the escutcheon is tapered, and so a fork to keep the wood from spreading would be better.
