TR4/4A TR4A--Padded Rear Interior Panel--Behind The Seats

Guys and Gals:

How do I remove that padded panel behind my seats (i.e. in front of the gas tank)? I don't see any screws or snaps, and yet it's tightly fit into the back wall of the interior. The car was originally a hard top model.

Are there push clips back there? Or, am I headed for the supreme joy of gas tank removal just to remove that silly panel?

Mine had small black screws that where used to attach it.

For the TR4A, I believe it should be the same rear panel whether soft top or Surrey top and it should be screwed in with chrome screws with cups. There should be 4 or 5 along the top edge and then 1 on each side about half-way down and I believe there were 4 at the bottom as well as the parts manual lists 11 screws and cups. Note that the TR4 did have a different rear panel with a Surrey top since with the soft top the rear section and sides lifted and covered the top frame when down.

You mention padded though and there isn't really any padding in the original TR4A rear panel. The same board and vinyl covering with vertical heat seams similar to the door panels. Do you have any pictures of what your car has installed? I don't suppose your car came with the occassional rear seat (not that I've seen one with a TR4A and the parts manual only shows 1 part number for the rear squab trimmed assembly).

On mine, there are no visible screws or hardware fittings, but you're correct that the panel resembles the door panels, rather than the foam padded piece like on the TR4. My manual indicates that some trim pieces in the rear are glued with rubber cement, and I wonder if that's all I have here.

The rear wheel arch covers and the triangular trim pieces down by the doors (B post reinforcement pad assembly) should be the only glued pieces, but maybe yours is just glued.
