T-Series Interior Trim Panel installation

Aloha All,

I have an interior trim kit from Moss Motors for my TF. Everything about the installation seems straightforward except for the front kick panels. The old ones are formed to wrap around the reinforcing hop. The new ones from Moss are flat and don't seem to be flexible without performing major surgery. Does anyone have experience installing the Moss interior kit in either a TF or TD? If so, does the front kit panel go outside the hop, or is it somehow formed to wrap around the hop? Thanks in advance.

I'm also asking Moss tech support about this.

You have to really dampen the back of the panel board so it's flexible and form them around a pipe or round object, beyond the curve press flat and let dry and then you can mount them. It takes a little ingenuity to do it. Make sure it's formed vertically to match the position of the pipe. Someone might have a video of the proceedure. PJ

I don’t advise what you have been told. What sort of backing are they using these days?

It is a thick pasteboard material. The other panels are thin plywood.

Well, I was asked and relayed how I did my Moss kick panels, which came out very well. Unless one has actually done this, why degrade a comment on a procedure that works?? Oh well, such is life.

No, I didn't score it, just marked where the bend should go, once nice and moist completely through, it bends fairly easy. Make sure the panel is completely dry before mounting permanently.

I received a phone call today from Moss Motors tech support. I had a nice and helpful conversation with Kelvin. He sent me by email two very informative articles about forming the bend around the reinforcement hoop. Both involve moistening the upholstery board to form the bend and measurements where the bends start and end.

The articles used damp rags to get the material pliable. A steamer, like a steam flat iron might work. I know I have used steam to bend wood. Thank for the suggestion.
