Just reinstalled the new engine in the TR3. Installed the supercharger just as it came off the engine. Now when I turn on the key the fuel pump (electric) pumps fuel out the throat (towards the air cleaner) The choke is disengaged the motor runs fine but really rich. No adjustments have been made. ????

Stuck float?

BTW, I wasn't very impressed with the bit of rubber hose between the bolt and top cover of the float chamber. I purchased a "real" vent tube, which allows the top to seat much better.

I can look up the Moss part number if you like, I think there is a picture in my supercharger thread.

Checked the float, it look's to be fine. The rubber hose between the bolt and cover is very cheesy. The part # would be great. or a link to your supercharger thread.

Well Glen and I spent the day trying to get the carb set right. But to no avail. The gas just spews out the throat of the carb when the fuel pump runs. We have reset all the adjustments to what the book says. Still the problem is there. Can't figure this one out. Made a post on the Jag forum, maybe they have had this problem.

Hi Dan,

It seems to me that it must be a problem with either the float, or the valve. Have you tried taking the lid off of the float chamber, holding the valve shut manually, and then running the pump?

Hi Darrell
Done all that. I found a exploded view of the HD8 and I think that some crud got in the diaphram some how. I will pull the carb tomorrow and see what is up. Thank you Darrell, I am going to get the vent tube from Moss. My old carbs did not have them, just hoses.

Hi Dan,

Hopefully it will be something easy.

BTW, there is a gasket for the top cover as well. It really shouldn't need to seal against liquid, but I figured it would be better to have a decent seal. There are also washers/gaskets for both sides of the banjo fitting. I ordered them, too, but my carb had them already (not that they did much with the bit of hose there!).

After a few days of frustration, I removed the carb and took it all apart hoping to find something. With a diagram in hand I proceeded to take it apart. Found nothing amiss. So I put it all back together and reinstalled it. As I was snugging up the bolts one stripped out the threads of the s/c ARG!!! Removed the s/c and installed studs with locktite, (enough threads were left). Rerereinstalled the s/c and turned on the ignition and WOW everything looks good. Fired up the engine and a little adjustments and the new motor runs nice. I have no idea what I did to stop the fuel problem. Now to put some miles on the new motor.
Thanks for your help Darrell, Moss is sending the extra parts this week.
