SU HD8 carb set

I've heard that the dual SU HD8 carbs are noted as front and rear.

Is there any difference between the two?

They seem identical, as in replacement parts.

I am told that when I take them apart, to make sure not to switch parts from one to the other. Why?

Do I have replace them to the same position as to which one was in the front and which one was the rear.

Would someone elaborate.

ausmhly, may i ask why your taking them apart? are you going to rebuild or re-use the original parts? anyway before you break them down check to see if the throttle shafts are a sloppy/loose fit you might want to have them re-bushed and replaced as i did, joe curto inc. knows his stuff and very helpfull hes in college point n.y. did mine and he has all the parts for these carbs, 718-762-6287 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Thanks for the info.

I tried cleaning the carbs in the car, but found I can only do a so so job. I could not get to a lot of areas.

Once I removed them, and started to clean them, I decided to polish the bell housings. Once they were done, I thought how nice would they look if I polished everything.

Not concourse, I know. My car is a nice driver.

The simple answer to your question is the float bowls are on opposite sides, so it is sensitive to whether it's front or rear. Also the throttle shafts are slightly different from front to rear. Finally the rear carb throat body has the dizzy vacuum lead and the front doesn't.
