guess I'm gonna paint a target on my 100-6

Two years ago a lady ran a red light and smashed the front right of my 100-6, just after it had come out of the paint shop (two days). Friday, a pick-up truck was sitting at the stop sign at a "T" intersection. I was on the crossing road, about ten feet in front of him at a complete stop, waiting to turn left onto the road he was exiting from. The oncoming traffic passed, and as I started to make my left turn, there he comes, right off of his stop sign. I saw him coming, and floored the Healey, but he still crushed the back left fender, and mangled the rear bumper. His insurance company is taking full responsibility, since he obviously had a brain dead moment.
So the end of this story is I guess I might as well find a spot on the car that some nitwit hasn't smashed, and paint a target on it for the next person.

Larry, owner of the ground zero 1957 100-6...... :wall:

Sorry to hear that Larry, man that is some bad news. But it sound like you do not need no target---Keoke

Hi Keoke - I guess I shouldn't complain, nobody has ever been hurt in either accident, and the damage has alway been repairable. You're right, it doesn't seem like they need a target to find me!

Install a rollbar with a stocked gun rack; you'd be surprised how much more careful people will be around you then!

I hope that they can get you fixed up and back on the road quickly. The fall weather is some of the best for Healey driving.

I know the feeling.
How hard it is to see a bright red 1949 Willys Wagon with yellow flames?

I've been nailed several times, both right after paint.

"Brain Dead" isn't the half of it.

It scares me to hear these stories since mine was just completed and I'm driving it quite a bit. I have upgraded the lights to the extent possible... but I don't think that would have helped in any of the "accidents" mentioned.

Best of luck in the future!

Cheers,
Steve

I was thinking a 50 cal. mount on the rear of the cockpit - I don't use those seats anyway.

The body shop says one or two weeks, we are waiting for the insurance adjuster to show up.

It does scare you, people are unconsious, they just don't see you. Mine is my everyday driver, I alternate between the 100-6 and a 59 Bugeye.

Hey Larry,
Look at the bright side of it, you're now " pre-catastrophied" ( sp?)
as from The World according to Garp novel from years back. Know how you
feel as this past Saturday had to avoid an idiot deciding to turn at the
last second with no turn signal - gee, I'm shocked - and pulled into
a closed gas station, bounced over a pot hole but no damage other than
a broken exhaust hanger mount.
Regards,
Mike

Always sorry to hear about AH's in accidents. Twice my wife and I had close calls with our Healey. On both those days it involved leaving stop lights/signs. Some days it just isn't worth taking the car out.

I did install the lighted reflectors in the rear and added automotive type relays to increase brightness to the headlights. People just aren't used to seeing old car rear and front turn signals.

BTW painting a target on your car would only increase your chances of getting hit... :yesnod:

Sorry to hear about your healey....
Glad your ok..... the car can be fixed.
Too many people on the road in a hurry doing other things then driving
and enjoying the road.
I just added a halogen light to my old rear reflectors on the BN6. Hope that helps.
Good luck with the repairs.

If you want to be seen better from the rear then consider using these. Two intensity red giving running and stop lights and amber for turn all in one small unit!

The old lenses are just a tad too small

Now gone to the later 3000 lenses in clear for the their better light spread. These units can be seen in sunlight as opposed to the originals

Not VERY konkours though :jester:
