Good luck with new top frame?

Hello all,

I've been running out of luck with recent repro parts I've ordered, so I thought I'd float this one by the forum. My convertible top frame is broken in a way that I don't believe is repairable; has anyone ordered a new top frame and been ecstatically happy about it? I am referring to the whole skeletal frame, headers, etc. that I would have to attach to the interior body.

Why not get an original? They pop up from time to time on Ebay. As a matter of fact there is a guy in Arizona parting out a '74 TR6 and offing everything up on Ebay. He has the top frame up for sale here.

I've often been curious if the quality of the tops sold by the big vendors is any good. Had thought about buying one and returning it if not happy with the quality. However, note that none of them (probably all come from same manufacturer) come with the header bar. And that would require a flexible rivet, which also might be hard to find.

I got a replacement top frame with a top already installed on it (off ebay). Huge improvement over the rattling, falling apart one I had. It goes up and down with ease. It was removed from a working car and I think it is an original. -it came from a car that also had a hard top, and roll bar, so the frame didn't see much use. It is working great and was painless to install (though not exactly show quality, it is very functional and looks great).
