Gas from my header overflow

Hello. I'm a novice mechanic with a 1959 100-6 BN6. I've just got it running but obviously still alot of issues to continue working on. It seems to be running a little rich and I'm getting some gas on the ground from the head overflow tube after each start. Any suggestions where to start? It is as simple as turning the carb mixture adjustment? I have been reading some of the posts and really appreciate all the knowledge and interest I see. Thanks, Nates100

Hi Nate were all a bunch of novices here. I want you to describe the overflow tube that you see leaking and where it is attached.--Keoke

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. The thin, long drainage tube is under the front of the head/or intake manifold. I have the Automatic enrichment carb that I think I have now made into a manual choke. This thing doesn't show up in many pictures and I understand was on Healeys for only a short production period. I have not had to use the choke to start it. It drains some gas after parking it. After a mile test run yesterday, it actually wouldn't start. I thought it might be flooded and it started after letting it sit for few minutes.

OK Nate, that is the intake manifold drain. If you converted the choke it just may be that it is not set up correctly and it is flooding the engine. Your comment, you have not had to use the choke to start the engine suggests this may be the problem. ___Keoke

P.S Most LBC Mechanics swear by the auto choke unit. I would fix it or have it fixed.

Thanks Keoke. That's great advice. Finding someone who can set it up correctly maybe the most difficult. My local specialists want me to remove the whole unit and intake manifold. Thanks again.

Well Nate, you are not the only NC Lister on the forum. Perhaps one of them knows of a LBC service facility in that area and will chime in.---Keoke

Hi Nate,
Are you close to Greensboro and/or have you tried Hendrix Wire Wheel? If they don't do that kinda thing, I'm sure they'll know someone. Both Jerry and Allen are involved with Healeys.

I, personally, can't recommend Allen Hendrix enough. He's fantastic and a real straight shooter. You won't be overcharged. I'm not saying he's "cheap," but he's reasonable and you won't feel like your being raked over the coals.

The face of his shop has changed a bit. Jerry pretty much retired earlier this year and is rarely there. His son Chance is also rarely there any more because he's now flying choppers in the Army full time (thanks to him for his service). Allen does have a couple of "new" folks - but at this point even they've been there about two years.

Ben is a phenominal mechanic. He's one of those guys that people like me think he's a magician.

and

Tom is one of those guys with the attention to detail that you simply want to work on your car. If it aint right, he'll make it right.

Between them and Allen, Hendrix is more than just tires!

As a disclaimer - I've got no personal affiliation with HWW other than being a customer. Allen restored my car "ground up." I have taken it to a couple of other shops for some specialty work since then, but it ended up back at Allen's to fix what they messed up.
