MGB-GT 71 Mgb gt no gas in float bowls

Hello everyone! I have just a quick question that I need help with!
I have a 71 Mgb Gt with the HIf4 carbs on it. It will start and run on starting fluid but other than that it won't.
I ook off the fuel line from the filter to the carb and it is getting gas when key is on. I noticed when I took off both of the float bowls there was NO gas in them. Is that the reason it will not run on its own? If so what should be my next steps?
Any help is VERY appreciated
Thanks!
Brian

Empty bowls is definately a no-go situation. If you are getting fuel past the filter but nothing going into the bowls, likely to be stuck float valves. Give the bowls a couple healhy taps with the plastic end of a good sized screwdriver, if that works then you might be able to get away with just a good cleaning. Other things to check are blockage in the inlet of the float. Seems odd that both would fail at the same time.
