Front shock bolt torque

Any one know off the top of his head what the bolts that secure the front lever arms to the frame should be torqued to?

I've beem using a figure of 35 Lb-ft with anti-seize/dab of grease for 35+ years. Make sure the threads are good and clean. I currently use Fel-Pro N5000 anti-seize (free big can from the plant) for future removal ease.

I got to thinking on the way home from the plant that the figure I gave might be a little high for stock mounting bolts. Us racers tend to upgrade the bolts to a Grade 8 bolt or better making sure the threads fully engage the threaded mounting boss in the frame. Lengths change depending upon what else is added on top of the shock (Peter May kit, Carrera add on shock, etc.)I'll use a good lockwasher and a flat washer under the head.

So, I looked it up in a Bentley, a Haynes and a BLMC manual. Bentley and BLMC used a figure of 25-30 lb-ft for the torque for stock bolts. Probably dry too. My version of Haynes didn't have anything listed.

Thanks Mike. I was just curious if the stock bolts where graded or not, and what grade they might be. I run grade 8 on mine, so 35 ft. lbs. is no problem.

I would think stock bolts are SAE Grade 5. It's been a while since I looked at the stock bolt heads, but that would be my expectation.

Gr. 2 Gr. 5 Gr. 7 Gr. 8 Socket Head
D O D O D O D O D O D=dry, O=oiled
3/8x24 22 16 35 25 45 35 50 40 54 44

Based upon this randomly selected torque table from Google, the anti-seized threads on the G8 bolts should not have a problem being torqued to 35. I'll take a look at some of the stock bolt heads soon and see what I find. The factory figure of 25-30 likewise would not challenge the tensil strength of a G5 bolt.
