Front Left Brake Line

How should the brake line route from the brass union to the left front? Should it go on top of, behind, in front of, or below the crossmember? Also what holds it in that area?

On my BE it goes behind the RF shock, in front of the upper cross-member, down and then across. There are a couple of little clips like the ones on the firewall that the line clips into down below as it goes across! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I think Drew has posted a picture of the engine bay of the '74 tub he had, showing the routing. You might PM him and ask. It's hard for me to get a decent picture of either the '72 or '74 I have here, as they are fully assembled. I don't have anything of the proper vintage opened up right now.

Drews pix just miss what you need to see down in front I think, but you can see where the line goes to from the junction!

Just looked, but no pix. From the union it drops down and angles fwd parallel to the shock mount, inboard of the shock. It then drops below the rack, about even with the front edge of the rack, on the top side of the crossmember. It crosses over, <u>under</u> the steering column, comes back up, and follows the plane of the shock mount rearward, inboard of the shock. Once past the shock it turns and mates with the union to the hose.

Thanks guys for the pics and suggestions. That line will probably be quite a challenge, and I'm not looking forward to bending that one. Those clips you mentioned are the same type that hold the fuel line on the frame edge in the transmission tunnel? I seem to remember some talk a while back about moving that front left line from the front of the crossmember to the back to reduce the risk of damage?

No no. The clips in question look like bobby pins but tough, Should be a couple on the rear for brake and fuel lines.

The same type of clips can be found just above the battery box, holding the brake/clutch lines to the firewall! Bending the tube is really not too difficult if you just bend a little bit at a time and shift the "apex" of the bend just a bit with each bend.
