Finally getting to the Tr3a to finish it up after too many years. Been on the road for a few ,but the handling was off.
So the fix is tr4a trunnions and upper arms to gain the castor she needs at speed. She has my 5 speed conversion
and a 160hp screamer that red lines at 6500. With the 370 gears it goes into 5th at 130mph (in theory). Wilwoods
slow it down and I am stoked to have her 10/10 finally.
Not sure what a cop might say if he saw those numbers on his radar.......dont wanna know....

The job is nearly finished ,funny how one side went so much easier than the other. At least it was unnecessary
to drop the spring as I had feared. Once one of the lower arms is slipped out,the trunnion change is quite easy to do.

Sounds exciting!

Just a reminder that the TR4 suspension will make the car harder to steer at lower speeds. Most also convert to rack and pinion at the same time to help with steering loads.

Sounds similar to mine.
i have 4.1 diff and I tr6 gearbox A type od I max out at about 125
It’s the brick shape that’s the issue.
I still have the steering box too (steering links bronze bushed)
But think about adding camber of about 1.5 - 1.75 deg and run the front wheel parallel ie not toe in.

Camber will help in autocross. Our Tr7 racer had -3 deg front and rear(IRS) The front was too easy, just re-drilled
the lower arm holes on the X member.
Test drove the Tr3 yesterday took it up to 90 (regular traffic speed these days) BIG improvement to say the least!!
I should think that anyone doing the front of a tr3 would make this swap . All those tr4a's were not wrong.

I've cruised my TR2 at 110...rock stable. The early suspension will work if set up right. Very few are set up right!?!

The issue many cars have is that ,60 years on, the little wounds of time have added up.
My 59 had suffered a curb hit in the dim past. This had left it with a -.5 deg reading on the rt ft Might have been caught
when the frame was done but sadly I did not detect this slight issue when it might have been easily handled.
This drove poorly to say the least. Not wanting to tear it down and pull the rt suspension tower
back foreward 3mm to gain the .5 deg back, I did the next best thing adding the Tr4a bits and settling
for a cross castor of .5 deg which on all cars is good for most uses.
For track use I would suggest this upgrade as a safety mod. We all like safety !!

I’ve got a RevingtonTR front end, including Rack & Pinion. Good upgrade!

Wilwoods too? It is shocking how much less they weigh when compared to the iron units.Stopping
better is a huge plus, but unsprung weight is nice to lose.
I just could not bring myself to use the stock units on the 59, needs the extra stopping /handling.

The one issue I hit was the imprecise diameter of the tr4 rotor that must be used, ,just a little too big.
which wont hurt the standard unit but the Wilwood is less forgiving I guess.
