Piece by piece my car is slowly coming to life. First time I have seen my windshield wipers work. So, how fast are they supposed to move? They only move at one speed and move very slowly. Thanks for your help.

Bugeye wipers are single speed. They run faster when the generator is putting out power and the windshield is wet. But yes, RainX is your friend.

Kevin, did you fit new windshield wiper arms? I did--and they flop all over the place. I also replaced the wheelboxes--it appears to me that there is no way the splines on the inside of the wiper arms are deep enough to get a good grip. on the wheelbox spindles.

Do you or does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Charlie.

I bought reproduction wiper arms from moss and used the original wheel boxes. Everything seems to work fine.

Hi Kevin,
make sure you have the correct wiper arms.
the spline area for the BEs are shorter than the later model ones. The later model will fit, but when you fit the bonnet, the windshield wipers will hit the bonnet as it closes.
Good luck.
I will look to see what parts I have.

Part of the problem with me working on this car is that I have never seen anything work befor0. I have no reference point on what is correct some times. I had to solder in new wires and add new brushes earlier on the wiper motor. I cleaned and inspected the wheel boxes and regreased them. The wipers were working fine, but moved slowly. I just went out to the garage to count the cycles per minute, but now the are not working at all. Back to the drawing board.

I bought some original arms from a used parts dealer who sells on ebay--one came without the sheet metal clip at that holds the arm onto the spindle...they replaced it with the wrong kind...so now I have three, only one of them is complete and the right type. They were all pretty gnarly so I bit the bullet and bought some new ones from a well known Lenexa, Kansas parts dealer. These are the ones that flop all over the place.

Kevin, I sympathize with the feeling that sometimes even the smallest things fight you!

I also had a problem with my wiper motor. It turned out to be that the switch under the wiper motor turned out to be that the ground wire I was switching through was part of the wiring harness all right--it just wasn't connected to anything.

That is probably not your problem though, Kevin.
