Replacing Bugeye windshield rubber

I need to replace the windshield -> car rubber seal on the Bugeye in order to get it mounted back on the car for shipping. I've got a new seal in hand, but I've not done this one before. Do I need to remove one/both of the stanchions in order to slide on the new rubber, or is there another approach?

Not done one on a bugeye before but i have allways pulled them in with a cord placed in the groove of the rubber get some one to put some weight on the screen the pull on the cord to pull the rubber into the frame
Im sure some one will come along with another sugestion,

Not a bugeye but on my MKIV we removed one post and with three sets of hands pulled it in. One pulled from the end and the second pushed from the other. After it got about half way, the third kinda pulled from the middle. We used lots of soapy water for lubricant. We first tried the method John Twist showed by not removing the post but wasted a whole day with not luck at all. The far bigger problem, however, was getting that new seal squished down enough to get it in the car and the mounting bolts installed. Also, there was a rather large gap between the posts and the body where the bolts install. If you don't have your original spacers, you will probably need to make or find some as Moss shows them N/A. Mine needed about .140 inch each.

Soapy water is a poor lube for this job compared with glycerine, a drug store item (and water soluble for cleanup). For a "cord" a better tool is coated copper wire... 12 gauge coated. Worked on British car glass installs for decades for us.

Thanks for the tips all. My wife and I (I owe her now) got the rubber installed and the windshield on the car tonight. Took off one of the stanchions and the new rubber slipped right in. Used some soap and a bit of twine and it's all on the car.

Funny, the pic looks like I just need one good weekend push to finish it off. If only. ;)
