Bugeye drum brakes

New drum brake pieces right front. No movement in wheel cylinders in their slots. Where did I go wrong?
do you have a firm pedal? air in the system is the first thing that comes to mind

I'm not that far along. I just put the one wheel back together this p.m. It's as if I over tightened the bolts that hold the wheel cylinders in place.

I am out of my element a bit here as mine has disk brakes on the front. However, I do have drums on the rear. So, in the absence of someone who knows what they are talking about

1. Is it binding on anything? With the wheel clylinders, the clip that holds it in place (from Moss) is too thivk - I reused the old (original) one.

2. presume you have the brake shoes in place for your test - are they binding? are they too tight to allow the cylinder to move?

3. If your hydraulics aren't hooked up, what are you using to try to move the cylinders?

4. any pics?

it can't be far off

Rossco: "No movement in wheel cylinders in their slots"

Is there supposed to be movement in the wheel cylinders? I thought the movement was the piston, and the wheel cylinder stays in place.

Confoozled!

To my knowledge, the cylinders are supposed to float in the slots, seems to be a problem with some new cylinders. Remedy, slightly enlarge the slots on the cylinders just enough for them to slide with very little pressure. PJ

I thought the front drum brakes use 2 cylinders per wheel. The Moss catalog seems to verify this. If so they are probably bolted to the backing plate and do not move. If wrong just ignore my comment please.

The slot for the cylinders is large enough for the the cylinder to move. Nutmeg. I've seen comments about grease lube on the opening edges to allow for this movement. JP. There is no clip; they bolt (2) in place. The shoes tilt away from the backer plate. No one shows "steady" springs for the front wheels. The tilt seems to allow for uneven wear on the shoes to the outer edges. The wheels turn with a lot of drag and there is limited adjustment allowance. Thanks to all for comments and help.
