Every car has a story!
The wife and I met our son and daughter in law at a north Alabama lake for a short, extended family visit. The DIL’s uncle Tim brought his newly restored 58 Bugeye by on Saturday. That side of the family owned Merrill’s Auto Parts in Piedmont AL for decades. They specialized in salvaging sports cars, primarily European. They took the Bugeye in trade for a microvan in the early 60’s. It was given to middle child Zach (now retired Michelin engineer) for his 14th birthday to restore and drive when he got his license. By that time, he had two other cars to drive so the mildly restored car sat for 50 years. Fast forward, Zach gave the car to brother Tim and then helped him restore it. It is an immaculate example and has won multiple first place awards in the last year. These guys are not new to restoration processes and have skills most of us only dream of. For example, look at Zach’s 1955 Morris Minor Traveler with a Toyota 1.6L engine and 5 speed in Hemmings Sport & Exotic Car May 2017 edition or his 1996 MGB/GT with a Honda S2000 engine and 6 speed in Hemmings Classic Car August 2021 edition.
