Bugeye Master Cylinder Question

Does anybody know the correct size and thread of the hydraulic line that attaches to the Bugeye master cylinder for the clutch ? My master cylinder is a Lucas/TRW 7/8" bore. The brake line is not a problem as I bought the breakline kit from Moss. I have a aftermarket 1/4" hydraulic line in place for the clutch now but I can't get it to stop leaking at the master cylinder attachment point. It doesn't leak at the slave valve.

Is the M/C end bubble flared?

3/8-24 thread. It originally used an SAE Bubble Flare. If you are using a modern line, then I think an AN-3 male fitting would seal ok for the clutch.

Looking down into the attaching hole for the clutch line it looks as if the seat would require a bubble flair. The line I an using has a bubble flair. The line I have came off a Bugeye that had a conversion from drum to disk breaks, as far as I know it didn't leak on that car. When I insert the line into the master cylinder I can feel it bottom out into the seat, it then will finger tighten all the way down.

Maybe the fitting does not have a long enough shoulder?

That's my first thought but it seemed to work fine on the other car. A friend of mine did the conversion on the other car and saved the line. He gave it to me when I was ready to install my hydraulic lines.Rather than replace the entire clutch line I was wondering if I could find an adapter to allow the male end to be extended to fit farther down into the attaching hole.

In my humble opinion the line should be cut and a deep nipple put on, bubble flair made and line reinstalled. If there's not enough line to do that it needs replacing with one which will reach. There aren't any "Band Aids" for hydraulics... or none with any reliability.

Another small point- in the original post you say you haver a 1/4" line. That may be a simple error, but it should be 3/16", surely?
Which you may well have, cuz a 1/4" line would be a struggle to get in the M/C, I imagine.
