Throttle return springs...

Car is reassembled. Not started up yet.
Choke operation worked fine, carbs did their thing, however when I put my foot on the gas pedal, the cable runs about half an inch or so then stops; I can feel the tension on my foot yet the throttle linkage isn't moving. I bought new springs in accordance with the book and assembled them as such and the cable is exactly where I left it.
2xHS2s.
Are the springs too taught?

After reading the posts on this, I made sure it was, checked it with the books and catalogs and everything. Checked it against my 'before' photos also.
Someone said that they had experience in getting cars to their shop where someone had said that someone uncles freind put it back together, that I remember, very well!
Anyway, I can take a photo of it right now for your inspection, and if it is incorrect, you can call me Susan.

The piece you have stickin' up at the back is the "stop" and SHOULD be hitting the choke "crossbar" link as a stop on IDLE... Shouldn't really touch that choke link but nearly. Those are MGB hs4's but they're VERY nearly the same as far as linkage goes.

Doc surely when you set the throttle linkage clearance between the throttle shaft stop and the heat shield and you cannot set it up on the pic you show( of course what would i know mine isn't running yet )(but close)

Ummm.... not QUITE the way it really works, Will.... The heat shield plays no part in throttle linkage. Or *shouldn't*. The "stop" is under yer foot. The linkage in my photos is installed properly (albiet a bit filthy), Barry's "crossbar" is BAZ-ackwards. *snork*

The "long" arm of the crossbar should be facing "outboard" near-horizontally and under the choke crossbar, not pointing to the North Star next to the heat shield.

Hopefully he will post a photo after he's sorted it and made certain it works.

according to haynes midget manual it does actually (from what I see)face inboard and is set with a 12 thou feeler between it and the heat shield

Hmmm... I guess I'm wrong, then.

...wouldn't be the first time. But I'll wait for Barry's eval before I slit my wrists. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I think what he has is the long part below 90 degrees(instead of above) and as the throttle comes on it is hitting the heat shield

That means mine is 'upside down' right?
NOOOooooooo!

Mine is hitting something and being stopped from progressing to open the thottle, up, down, over or under, it's not on right so I'll take it all apart again in the morning. If it's a go for launch willie, I'll post pics of what it looks like.

From looking at your 2nd pic barry there shoul be a gap of 12 thou between the heat shield and the part on the linkage that sticks out, the spring should go in the bottom hole and the throttle in the top one. If your throttle cable is too far through the cable clamp you will not get the full travel on it

Barry it does look as if your throttle cable is too far through

Spring looks to be upside down.

New aftermarket springs are alot tighter then old worn ones.
