I have an opportunity to buy a box sprite with a bugeye front end. Although I like bugeyes I do not want a hybrid. Is there any market for a decent bonnet which fits the bugeye ? I'm in the northeast so it would have to be a pickup only deal. Clue me in on a range of prices depending on overall condition from "like new" to dented and rusty. Thanks, Bob

Depends on the condition of the front. If it is metal, original, unmolested and straight with no rust in lower front valance section or in the lower rear corners where the brace tacks on, then it could be worth $1,000 or more, depending on the buyer.

If it is fiberglass, less, as you can buy new for $650.

Bob, I would say that while they can be worth something - typically the buyer would need to be local-ish. Most of the conversations I have read on this forum about such things have ended up as conversations about geography.

Wish you were on the west coast. Looking for a decent original bugeye bonnet.
Prices here for complete, unmolested bonnets with little rust and few
dents are in the $500 bracket. But are few and far between. Used fiberglass
bonnets come up for half that but are usually cracked.

I have a steel Bugeye bonnet from my first Bugeye I owned in 1968. I have had it in dry storage here since the mid- 70's, but wouldn't part with it for anywhere near $500. You can't even buy an ill-fitting reproduction Bugeye fender for that little.
