Tunebug's temporary new home

I had to solve my lack of garage space today, as the new MGB is due in next weekend. So I finally bit the bullet and rented a storage unit a couple miles from my house. It's a standard 10'x20' space, big enough for one of the cars and some extra storage for my spares and big tools (like the engine hoist). Got everything signed today and took advantage of the clear weather to drive the Tunebug over there.

He looks a little sad all by himself, but I'll be loading up all sorts of parts and such tomorrow. The plan is to swap cars between the storage and my home garage throughout the summer, with some hopes that I'll have my additional garage space built on my property next year. It's inconvenient, but the best I can do until I can save up some more funds for the garage build. I figure that the annoyance of having one of the cars off the property will keep me motivated to get the new garage added.

Looks like it has a little breathing room now.

You might want to double check your insurance policy to be sure it is covered while parked there.

Hang some girlie posters on the wall. If it has a 110 outlet in the space a small running fan will help keep car fresh

I did do that, and they will cover either car at that location -- cost $4/year more. A good point to bring up, though, as they did need to know, and wanted the address of the place.

I'll be hanging some posters and moving all the boxes of parts over there. Will clear up space in my garage that I really need, as I've got a motorcycle to restore next.

Drew;
The tunebug looks so lonely.
You could have drove it here, picked up the "B", and I would have cared for the tunebug for awhile.
Heck, and you'd even have a Canadian vacation.
Good luck with the garage build, and remember, planning is everything.

Dave, luckily I've got at least a year (probably two) until I can afford the build so there's plenty of time to plan.

I had to rent a unit for all my large tools and spare parts while I built my new shop. Make sure there are no rats. Even though I did not have anything stored that they could harm, there was damage to boxes and evidence that they had been there. They are hard to control when you do not know what is stored in the other units.

You know, you could get another car in there Drew....

I totally thought the same thing when I saw the picture. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

It's 10'x20', so not room really for another car. Door's really too narrow for trying to get 2 Sprites side by side, and I don't want another Sprite anyways...

Would have liked one a few feet wider to truly be able to fit a second car, but this is what was available. Good enough. Spent the better part of today moving all my spares and large tools (engine lift, etc) over to the unit. Nice to have the space, and it gives the Tunebug some company.

No no no Drew, you are thinking about it all wrong. Bugeye here, all the stuff from the other garage in here to you can barely walk, then one more car at the house.

Or, two post lift!

There is always a way. Grin.

I've got plans for an additional 24'x24' garage at my house, Tom. That will allow the collection to expand a bit as necessary. Just going to take a couple years to have the finances in order.

Besides, I can't afford another car at this point. Two LBCs along with the BMW bike have me at my financial limits.

Now now, he's not abandoned. I'll be swapping the two cars between the storage and my home garage. Just wanted to take advantage of the clear weather to make space at home.

I am looking for storage as well. I only have a one car garage, and it looks like I am buying another tub to build as mine is shot. I wonder if I could hoist it up to the ceiling....what might a tub with doors and bonnet weigh?

Probably too much if it is a standard garage. (sorry)

I'm looking forward to comparing the driving experiences. I've not driven very may sports cars at all, so it'll be interesting to see how it compares.
