Oil pressure gauge flex hose.

My Bugeye had a small hose connecting the oil pressure line from the engine to the oil pressure line comming from the gauge. It failed and I replaced with a piece of vacuum line. That did not last long. Local auto stores do not stock fuel line that is small enough (1/8" I think).

Moss lists the part as - 361-765 HOSE, oil pressure- for $16 plus shipping.

Is there a easy-to-find alternative that will hold up to 60 PSI?

Thanks,

David

You can pick up a nylon oil pressure hose and fitting at your local parts store for $7-10.

Easiest way is to go to Harbor Freight and for $13 but one of the "3-gauge" sets that come with mechanical gauges (all of them do) and then just use the oil pressure adapters and hose that is in the kit and then throw away the gauges (or keep them as backups).

Thanks for all the tips. I did buy one of the nylon hose kits, but I decided to try one other solution 1st. The parts store suggested small engine fuel line. It is small and flexible but not reinforced. It should handle 60 PSI OK but it didn't seem sturdy enough to last. Then I thought of sliding regular fuel line over it as reinforcement. Standard fuel line fit perfect. So far it seems to work fine and looks somewhat original. If this fails again I will switch to the nylon tubing. Some pics below.

Did the original metal pipes not have a ferrule (olive) on the ends so the factory hose would grip better?

My BE had ferrules on the short copper tube attached to the engine and to the copper tube passing through the firewall. I used a rubber type tube (bought from Moss if believe) which I pushed over the ferrules, and then uses tubing screw clamps to hold it all together. No leaks yet, except when I reinstalled the engine and forgot to hook up the oil line.....what a mess....Homer strikes again and I saw him in the mirror!

Both ends have ferrules close to the ends to secure the hose behind the clamp.

I just happen to have a new/old set on the workbench and went and checked.

The original hose was black of course and had a kind of knitted wrapping on the outside. Was about a foot long.

Do not use the small engine fuel line, it will heat and burst, how do I know that? What a mess and it almost drained my 1098 before I noticed. I would buy the hose and clamps from Moss or VB as it is necessary everything fits good and tite on these very small connections. I tried others, they to failed.

I discovered the hard way the first time I started Bugsy that the DPO had neglected to connect the Oil Pressure Line to anything. 20W50 at 70 psi can create quite a mess squirting sideways and going into the PS footwell via the clutch slave access panel. After about a Quart had shot sideways into the Passenger Footwell I discovered the problem and shut things down. Talk about a mess to clean up.

I suspect that solution will hold for a long time.
A hydraulic shop might have a hose small enough to work.

Hey, let's start a pool. I give it 125 miles tops.
:highly_amused: A pool. LOL

I'd probably run a completely new line (with nylon and conventional compression fittings - used to have this in a Mini I had).

The nearly perfect off-the-shelf line is diesel fuel return line from most Audi VW cars and parts stores. 3mm re-enforced cloth covered. Not as thick as the original, but more than up to the task. Team up with 3 friends and splurge on a foot.

Or buy a foot and sell two "kits" on ebay for $20 each.

Are you off your meds? Get the proper hose from moss or wherever and avoid an engine fire, an engine seizure, a roadside stranding.
