New Heater Control Valve

OK... this is a cross post.

I received and installed the new Heater Control Valve that's a much improved design over the stock TR6 valve. It screws directly into the existing pipe and, with a little force, will take the 1/2" heater hose. It operates sooooo much easier & smoother then the TR6 valve...you can actually operate it with just one hand. I wrote the whole thing up on my web site including the part number in case you want to pick one up at your local NAPA store. You can see it all on my web site.

Cool!
OK... So here's my question: The only problem I've had with my valve (so far) is that it doesn't really shut the heater off. Valve closed - heater still gets quite warm. I'd like the thing to actually keep the heater core cold (OK... at least "cool") in the Summer. Does it do that?

The core will always get a little warm, but no more than that. If it's actually getting hot, the valve is not shutting off fully. Might be misadjusted, or have crud caught in it, or simply be defective.

With either the original valve or this valve you do have to play around with where you clamp the outer housing to get maximum extension of the inner wire to fully open and close the valve. I think this one was easier to do despite having to make that wire loop.

I saw a web article about the 7's heater control valve being garbage and someone has copied the Volvo design to fit. Looks similar.

I wonder if the Volvo unit is closer to the the TR6 heater hose size?

$35 difference for what appears to be the same part?

The more expensive one is a non-bypass.........what ever that means. And they have the exact same part number. That's weird enough but what's even more interesting is that I pulled the Parts America valve picture right from their site 2 days ago and got this

When you pull it today you get this which is the same part again but with a significantly different price I wonder what's going on....

You may actually want a little flow thru your heater core just to stop it from plugging up over the summer and or air locking

Tom, that would imply that you have full faith in the fact that a part which has control over a fluid in a Triumph actually would seal without leaking on it's own.

Interesting concept indeed............
