TR6 TR6 Heater Control Question

Hi, I know it is summer, but I have a question about the heater controls for my 1969 tr6. My question surrounds the distribution box control. It seems to have three positons, in, midway, and out. How is this supposed to work. Am I supposed to be able to get heat out of the eyeball vents? With the heater control pushed all the way in, I get a mild amount of heat out of them, barely enough to tell. When I open the scuttle vent, the air flow goes way up, but it cools down. When I am moving, I pretty much feel like it is blowing outside air + 5 degrees. If I close the eyeball vents, and move the control to the middle position, I get pretty good hot air onto the windsheild. If I pull the control all of the way out, the hot air dumps out the bottom of the heater box directly onto the tranny tunnel. The air hoses are hooked up correctly I believe (defroster on the bottom and eyeball vents on the top). I feel like I should be able to get heat out of these eyeball vents. Am I crazy?

You're not crazy (perhaps), but will not get heat out of the eyeball vents, which are fresh air only. The knob's three positions are off, defrost, floor.

Wow, that is an absolutly terrible design then. I wonder why they did not pipe both through the same hoses, the only diff between fresh air and heat is whether the water in the matrix is hot or not(controled by the heater valve). I don't currently have the kidney pads in the car. Won't these block off the hot air as they cover that area between the bottom of the dash and the transmission tunnel?

The best way to regulate heat is to insulate the floor and firewall, giving special attention to the tunnel cover.
Worry about the poor heater design next fall, after a summer of great driving!!!!

May seem terrible by 2004 standards but in 1962 fresh-air-in-your-face was rather revolutionary. I think Chrysler Corp copied it and claimed to have invented 'flow through ventiliation'.
