TR6 replacement switch for TR6 heater fan

I'm going to have to replace my heater/blower switch on my 75 TR6. It's a 2 speed switch, which is no longer available from any retail source. Is there a way to replace it with a toggle switch. What kind of toggle would I have to get in order to run the heater at 2 speeds?

I believe you need a double pole/double throw switch. Some configurations are "on/off/on" Check any good electrical supply, maybe even radio shack.

Also try searching for switch on this link:

https://www.grainger.com/Grainger/searchresults.jsp

you need a buisiness acct to order, but give it a try.

Hey Steven -

Radio Shack will have what you need. Electrical folks on the Forum correct me: I think DPDT (Double-throw/Double-pole) will work, but you may only need SPDT (Single-pole...) It depends on how many wires your current switch has. If you're only controlling one wire (positive or negative), that's single pole. There will be three connections on the switch. The source comes in and the other two wires that go to the motor are hooked up to the other poles on the switch. When the switch is in one position, current flows to that wire. The other switch position sends current to the other wire.

Thanks for the ideas guys.....If i get an improvised toggle switch, I'm assuming that I need to find a new mounting location under the dash somewhere, and just keep the defunct original heater/blower pull lever on the dash until, if ever, the original comes back into production. I'm figuring that it might not be possible to mount the improvised toggle in the exact same position as the original pull knob, and that it might look kind of goofy. Any ideas on that?

Steven, If your looking for just a metal "bat" toggle switch, it has been my experience that Radio Shack will probly have what you need, however, they are very proud of their items and you will probly pay at least 50% more for that type of item there as you will at your local hardware store. Micro-Switch, Mc Gill, and Selecta-Switch all make this type of switch which will probly be available at your local hardware store of home improvement store. If you have a Graingers, or other wholesale electrical outfit in your area, they would be great candidates as well.

Thanks Steve....I'll probably check out Home Depot first, then maybe Lowes Hardware. From looking at the wire lengths on the original, it's probably going to necessitate some extra wiring....No Graingers here, but there is a Radio Shack. You're right about their price on stuff....I don't know anyone who shops there, or how it stays in business. Thanks for the info!!! Just a thought, while I have the speaker holders taken apart...I wonder if I could persuade the wife to let me put in that am/fm/cd player??????
