I purchased replacement leaf spring boxes made by Steelcraft and they were very poorly made. One was twisted, another was only half welded. Neither was even close to square in measurements. In the end only one of three was usable IMO.
I ordered two more made by British Heritage (I suspect also manufactured by Steelcraft) which had no welded nuts on flanges but otherwise looked the same. These are also not square. The box area where the ¼ elliptical spring is held in place is crooked, some 3/16” higher on one side than the other.
My question is for anyone who has actually installed these. Are these usable as is? How much does this out of wack measurement actually matter?
I am considering “remanufacturing” these by cutting and rewelding but before I go through all that trouble would like to hear anyone else’s experience with this to make sure I'm not over thinking it. Thank you.
