Yes they all came out of my mouth when trying to fit Bugsy's DS Door after the A=Pillar Skin was welded in last night. All fit fine no rubbing but now front side is rubbing and door once closed will not open. I think issue results from folding over the edge of the A-Pillar skin. I lost some of the extra gap space I once had up front. Other than getting door back open by unbolting hinges, who has some tips on getting this door fitted. Tried loosening bolts on higne straps but they are at their limit.

I need to put a straight edge on the back of the A-Pillar skin to make sure all is straight. Then I guess whack the Hel_ Out of It if it isn't folded over flush with A-Post. I don't see a way on unfolding that A-Pillar back edge if that is truly where my problem is. More research tomorrow morning when I can get back at it again. BFH Time I think.

And I was so proud of the job I did getting all to line up. Grrrr!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the little things!!!!!!!!!!

What I need is to get the top of the door moved outboard. Hinges are adjusted all the way to the left but top of door still opening in to edge of A-Post Skin. Bottom looks ok. Anyone know if possible to shim the door so it moves out. Again adjustment with screws in A-Post is as far to the left as it can go. Possible the hinge itself is bent but I did not have clearance issues with the door before replacement of the A-Post. I need to put the cogitation hat on.

Maybe if I say kind words and mention Spring and Sunshine and Green Things starting to Shoost outside and Bugsy please cooperate so I can get you back outside once again so we can go and "play."

Either that or it's the BFH. The choice it up to him!

Might could grind a bit off of theoutboard side of the top hinge to get just a bit more adjustment?

How much do you need?

A royal PITA fix is to shim the backside of the top hinge where it bolts to the door.
A couple of washers or a piece of metal with a couple holes drilled in it behind the hinge to move it out.

Thanks Frank and Jack,

I think I only need 1/4" to move it outboard. I'll play with it tomorrow morning. Was too tired after working all day and then getting started welding at 8:30. By 9:45 when I tried to hang the door I was at wits end when I closed door and could not reopen. These cars certainly don't allow a whole lot of room for error in welding / adjustment. I'll get it, just need to approach with clear and rested brain. Thanks

Also you can grab the top and the bottom of the door at the back and twist it a bit. Sometimes you can spring that door one way or the other and it helps. I saw this done to brand new minis on the Rover dealer lot one time. Good luck, I know its frustrating. I had my doors all straight and the new door seals make them pooch out at the bottom. I hope they go back in over time.

You could also ovalize the holes on the car side of the upper hinge.
Desperate, but effective.

Before getting too rough with it, check to see if the area where to hinge bolts on the pillar is slipped in tword the front of the car. Hard to explain but you may need to make a bracket that will bolt to the hinge area on the pillar and use a slugger to bump the hinge area of the pillar back twords the door opening. Sometimes when folding the new outer skin over the inner flange the inner panel can shift or move.

Gots any photos?

Jim,

After reading all that has been said, I would not think you would have enough gap at the rear to properly fit the door. If you have actually increased the width of your A post your overall door opening width would be shortened. When doing my patch we actually did the bending off the car befor attaching. This as you have found out is a critical fold. Have you loosened the attaching bolts on the door to gain movement?

I love it! actually there is something very endearing about watching it - that only an LBC owner could get - and of course the East German Mullet...

That video was awesome. I wish cars were still made like that.

Of course, cars are much better today, but they're kinda soul-less if you know what I mean.

Oh man. I am getting all poetic and romantic. I better go take my pills.
