Hello,
I am so frustrated. My LBC has been idle for almost 3 weeks. I pulled the motor out because the never ending vibration is still there and driving me crazy.I want to paint my sprite (its true JP, Mark) but not until it is mechanically correct. First thing I saw was the datsun release bearing front cover sleeve was broke off. The release bearing would move around on the input shaft when the car was in neutral, this is the noise I could here when sitting at idle. When the clutch was pushed in the noise would stop, because the release bearing is firmly against the pressure plate and would stop banging around. So I am happy to find problem one. Second problem, the prop shaft yoke has an 1/8 of sideways movement, took it to a driveshaft shop, I supplied my back up prop shaft and they fitted new u joints, balanced the unit, second time doing this, different shop, first shop maybe screwed up the job. The shop told me, they are 90 % sure that is the source of my vibration, good news I hope.
My frustration , I race over to the local Nissan dealer (3 weeks ago) and explain in great detail what I need, the parts guy is very helpful, he jumps up and down and says he will personally order the trans part and make sure it is shipped from Japan. I had previously searched every where, Datsun trans parts are as rare as hens teeth. Yes I called rivergate, no luck there.
I phone the parts guy twice to confirm the part is ordered, yes yes will be here soon. Well on Friday I go in to pick up the part and he tells me the part was never ordered, not sure why he says. Well I will omit what I said to him, he did spend the next several hours looking for a used part and claims he will have a used part by this Friday.
In desperation I purchased another Datsun 210 trans off of ebay. last night It will be forever in my spares.
I feel better now that my story is out.
Phil
