So I was moving parts around today trying to clean up the place and find some stuff I needed to work on the 64 .
I decided to mount the 62 Tri-Carb block on my engine stand to make it easier to move around . I found a big crack in the block on the cylinder head end .
I bought this 62 Tri-Carb a while back , it was all in pieces when I bought it and didnt examine all the parts thoughly . Its definatley cracked I took out the freeze plug below the crack and put fogging oil on the crack and it did penetrate all the way through I could see inside through the freeze plug hole .
I really would like to use this block if possible . When I got the car the seller had no BHMIT cert and I took a chance on it as it had an original factory hardtop . I had the car searched and its a full matching numbers 62 BT7 . If the car wasnt matching numbers I would have just sold it for parts and made my money back easily .
Has anyone had any luck repairing this kind of problem . I know the crack would have to be ground out and a hole drilled at each end to halt its progression but can it be welded ?
This maybe a dumb question but why would the block crack and not push out the freeze plugs ?
It must have been cracked when I got it as it was all open and dry when I bought the car . :eagerness:
