1098 10CC crankshaft

Looking for a 1098 10CC (2" main) crankshaft for an engine I'm hoping to build. I have one, but it's already been turned .030 and don't know if it'll even clean up at .040, even if I did want to use it. If anyone has some boat anchor around they want to quit tripping over, please let me know.

Crank can be welded and remachined to specks by a good machine shop.

Yep, I know that, but doing that on 7 journals would be crazy expensive. I did that on the wedged Huffaker crank I have for another engine (one journal) but it doesn't make sense in this case. I recently missed one for $20 on ebay.:livid:

But you would know exactly what you have and would not have to worry about the engine or take a chance on what you find. $200 isn't really that expensive considering the $ in the car anyway.

Maybe in Illinois, but not in California. I paid $300 for one journal, including nitriding, which this crank will need, and that was about 15 years ago.

Why wouldn't you want to use it if it cleaned up at .040"? Wasn't it just Kurt who had an extra?

At .040" all the factory hardening is gone.

Welding every journal on the crank would silly expensive. Gerard, I know someone who has several 10CC cranks, but he'll probably want more than $20 for it  Call me if interested, and I'll put you two in touch

Don't think I care to tear down this engine for $20 either, Gerard.:glee:

Actually the engine has less than 40K and I would bet that a set of inserts and rings would put it on the road for many more miles.

Kurt.

Can it be re hardened?

Yes, Moldex and others get about $150 to nitrate a crank, and then there's shipping both ways. The .040 bearings might be the bigger chore, no one much stocks anything more than .030" these days, not to say they are not lying around some where, but their not going to fall out of tree and hit you on head , you're going to have to go hunting for them

I don't mind getting hit in the head w/ bearings, it's the cranks I worry about.:tennis:
