Transmission Parts Created Equal?

I am going to embarque upon a rebuild of my TR250 tranny this winter. I have noticed some parts, including synchro rings some places at seems to good to be true prices.

Of course this tempts me, but too good to be true sometimes comes at a price.

Anyone know have experience with the rebuild parts of TR transmissions, all the same supplier jst sold by different guys or is there a difference in quality.

I don't mind paying more for the right stuff, but don't want to pay more just because some suppliers charge more for the same stuff.

Thanks, the rebuild kit doesn't look too bad price wise, less than TRF if I recall correctly.

There were a bunch of bad synchro rings on the market a few years back. Looked OK, except maybe a bit thinner where it didn't seem like it would matter; but just didn't work right. If someone has a batch of those, I expect they would sell them cheap ...

Considering how much work it is to change them, saving $20-30 on the set of 4 just doesn't appeal to me.

I just finished rebuilding mine and I went with the TRF rebuild kit. My syncro rings were toast so had to replace them but they were in the kit. They were, in all respects, equal to the TRF ones. Dimensionaly speaking that is. My first gear needed to be replaced, I snagged a good used one on ebay. What I found is that used parts are generally sold at 50% or less when you buy from Quantum or Vinco. Both great people to deal with.

Make sure you take lots of pictures and keep track of all the thrust washers and spacers. Do you have the Nelson Reidel articles? Good info and good pictures. If you don't have them go to the tech section of the Buckeye Triumph web site to download them.

I've got Haynes, Bentley, Autobooks, Roger Williams, but not Nelson Reidel--dosn't he have an orchestra or something? I will check this out and the Buckey Triumph site as well, thanks for the suggestion of the digital pics as well, it is one of those things I know is a good idea, but it doesn't hyrt to remind me to do it.

Too many reports of recent replacement short-lived synchro rings to make buying them from anyone other than Quantum Mechanics or Vinco a comfortable proposition.
