Greetings All -- I have a TR3 that is in the midst of a body off, and have been searching for someone to rebuild my windshield wiper motor. I recall about two years ago seeing an add in Hemmings for this service by a company up in Newark, Delaware, but I can't seem to find it any longer. Nonetheless, anyone have anyone they can refer?
Thanks!

My advise is dont be afraid to clean-up and re-assemle it yourself. Not complicated at all, and responds well to carefull handling. You do have to time the auto down feature so that the wiper arms rest at the bottom of the windshield, but again no biggie.

I agree with Mad Dog. I just did this same job about two weeks ago. At least open it up and see what you're up against. Mine just needed a new set of brushes, an armature commutator clean-up, and a new wire going from the field coil to the park switch. The darn brushes were expensive though. IIRC they were about $20 from Moss for two stinkin' little carbon brushes. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif

Also try any electrical motor rewind shops in your area. They should be able to help if you have to get into that type of overhaul

A tip on carbon brushes for any electrical motor.
you can purchase a carbon brush set at any local automotive parts store look for a set that has wire of sutible legenth for your application and the carbon is larger than what you need, both legnth and width.
Here is what I do.
Dissasemble the motor you wish to replace the brush set in. remove the old brushes.
you`ll need fine sandpaper and a flat surface to work on. Lay the sandpaper on the flat surface abrasive side up. take the oversized brush and reshape it carefuly rubing it on the sandpaper until it fits into the brush holder on your motor don`t make it too snug of a fit or too loose either sand it down until it slides nicely in and out. if the brush needs to have a contoured end where it fits onto the armature a dremmel with a sanding drum works nicely for this. I have used this method many many times with sutible results.
No more expensive brush sets for me :p

Well you've seen a couple recommendations of Lawrie Rhoads to rebuild your TR-3 windshield wiper motor. I am also doing a frame off TR-3 and just had Lawrie rebuild mine. Fast and nice looking. $90. Knows what he is doing! Tom
