TR2/3/3A TR3 Windsheild wiper Motor Question

I have my windshield wiper motor on my bench and tried to run it with a battery charger and it will not run only hums. I have cleaned it up inside and out and lubricated everything. The battery charger is a 12 volt 10 amp charger. Should that run it.
Thanks
Greg

I would think yes.

You should have connected green wire (hot) a black wire (ground) and a green/black wire (the switched ground).

As for that red wire that goes to the wheel-house (for the park function) I think it can be ignored for this test though grounding it should cause the motor to run irrespective of the switch being on or off (wheel house provides a ground until the linkage is in the park position).

It is a bit confusing as there is both a real ground and a switched ground -- I think you need both for the dingus to run.

Nope, only take two wires to make it run. With the housing and ground terminals not connected to anything, just connect your battery charger between terminals 1 and 2. The "real" ground is only for the "park" function.

A "10 amp" charger should run it, although perhaps not at full speed. If you have it wired as I've suggested and it doesn't run, there is likely something wrong with the motor.

But don't forget that the park switch connects terminal 1 to the housing during part of the cycle.

Just be thankfull you have a tr3,and not a tr2.My friend just spent 7 months getting his armature re-wound by some speciality electric place...at dreadfull expense. You cant find an original tr2 unit anywhere.(that works)

OTOH, rewinding an armature yourself isn't all that difficult. Used to be taught in high school shop class "back when".

Did a TR3 heater motor myself once, trying to get more power out of it. Spun the fan noticeably faster, but turns out it didn't blow much more air.
