TR2/3/3A wiper motor tr3

The wiper motor on my 61 has a smaller stroke than my 58tr3.The blades on the 58 travel farther and hit the windshield frame and go too far in the other direction. I have moved them on the splines and still cannot get a nice even pattern like the 61. I always thought they were the same from 57 to 61 until got the 61 going, so are there different configurations or is the stroke adjustable other than the off return setting?

Could the 58 have the wrong motor in it? Or perhaps the wrong gear inside the motor? Lucas sold motors with different strokes, but AFAIK the TR3/A with the self-parking wipers always used the same stroke. I'm not sure offhand if the early CRT15 motor had the same stroke or not, since it used different wheelboxes (but I would guess so).

The stroke is set by the position of the peg on the big gear, it isn't adjustable except by changing the gear. The sweep angle is stamped on the top of the gear as I recall.

One other thought, I used to have a TR3A that would overtravel only when the windshield was wet. My theory is that the rack was so badly worn that the wiper arms could go past the point where the rack would normally stop them; but I never proved that.

Possible TR4 motor installed. Send us a picture of the motor.

Isnt there a degree number stamped somewhere to tell you the sweep? I thought
that was true for all of these.
