Dave- (I guessed at your name) Do you have the Bentley Manual for this car?

Walk into your local parts retailer (O'Reilly, NAPA, Autozone) and get some NGK BPR6ES plugs. Many of the manuals of the era spec for Champions, but Champion quality has plummeted in the last decade. I had a couple not fire at all in the last few years. Autolite is also pretty sketchy. NGK seems to be the go-to plug for everything vintage -- from Triumph TRs to Ferrari TRs.

I'll second poolboy's recommendation. I've used NGK for years with great success but the TR6 has just never seemed happy with them. I installed some RN12YC's and have never looked back. Great performance and zero fouling.

Aside from the couple of Champions that I got that simply were DOA, I was at my friend's shop right after they discovered a Champion electrode simply fell off into the cylinder of a newer car (Hyundai or Toyota, I just can't recall what it was). It was a brand new Champion plug as spec-ed for OEM parts during the scheduled service (60K type service). The electrode just dropped off as the customer was driving her car home from the shop and brought it back in. Destroyed the cylinder. They won't use Champions again. And considering my Ferrari mechanic buddy also told me to stop using them (for the DOA issue, which had plagued him in servicing cars for his Ferrari/Alfa/Maserati customers), I can't recommend them.

Champion was bought out by Cooper in '89 and then absorbed into Federal Mogul in 1998. Since then, the brand has gone downmarket. Champions are half the price of other plugs, and the quality reflects this.

You've sure had your share of bad luck there, sammy..

Luckily the only problems I've personally had were with the Champions on my 308 GT4 -- but I installed them after a long project to get the car running again. I was troubleshooting all over the place to figure out what was wrong with those cylinders, then it turned out to be just plugs and a little carb tuning.
