As part of replacing the clutch, I've decided to replace all the gaskets, switches and seals. Everything was going well until last night. I couldn't get the rear main housing that encloses the mainshaft to separate from the bell housing to replace the gasket. It will only come away about a half inch. Tried the shock and awe method via standing the trans on the bell housing and striking the main shaft with a hammer while a friend pulled on the main shaft housing. Didn't help.
Is there a clip or something beyond the bolts that is keeping this thing from coming apart?? Has anyone else had this problem?? According to my Bently manual it should come apart with just removing the bolts.
Any help would be appreciated.
