Rear Seat Pan Seal

I am re-fitting the rear seats of the BJ7. British Car Specialists lists a rear pan seat seal in the rare and hard to find parts catalog. I did not find the rear seat seal in the AH mechanical service parts list or the Moss parts catalog. Is the rear seat seal required or is this a product enhancement?

If anyone is using the rear seat pan seal can you post a photo of the seat seal? Or a profile of the seat seal.

Thanks in advance,

A lot of water gets kicked up in this area from the road so I would put a seal in to keep out the mess.
The same goes for the trans/floorboard seals. I seem to recall a seal when I first dismantled my car.

In the March-April edition of the Austin Healey Magazine there are tips on trimming the cockpit written by Roger Moment. I recently employed some of the tips recommended in this article with good results, including Roger's recommendations for rubber seat pan seals.

Roger recommended a rubber seal that can be purchased from Metro Molded Parts (www.metrommp.com), part #LP 41-M. The article also shows how to constuct a simple jig to create a small slit in the extruded seal to allow it to seat properly. Once done the seal fit perfectly.

You can order back issues of the magazine @ www.healey.org. That same site has a great Tech archieve section with many articles written by Roger Moment and Gary Anderson.

Good Luck,

Jeff

Hello big6,

Some parts do not need to be ordered from a specialty place, as in this is the hard to find part your looking for.

The rear seat just bolt into place. All that is needed is a soft water proof seal of some sort. Consider using a Camper Seal Self Adhesive Foam Tape Weather Strip that's sold at the local hardware store. When bolting down the seat, it will make a very good seal. All for about five buck.
