The optional rear (jump) seats began with the MK-II Sprites and MK-I midgets. I have one in my MK-II.

At bronte there was a BE with an original child's seat. Same as a regular bucket seat, less than half size sat between the seats - very cool.

Thanks for the compliment Kim. I made one for my 1500 after seeing an original one for sale on Ebay. I just had a kid ask me where the seat belts were for the back seat.

This from the guy selling it

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Have an unused from new (still in remarkedly good condition)optional rear seat in red with white pipeing.
Story from Father-in-law was that it was from a Frogeye Sprite he was selling from new and customer refused to pay extra for it, so it was taken out and was still in the loft when he died.
Failed to find anyone who is aware of this item fitted to the 'Frogeye' But although well into his eighties have never known him to be wrong on any details of old cars, so perhaps it was a 'special' or rarely used extra. Contact with A.H. Spares revealed a rear seat fitted to later models but not to the Fogeye.

The 'seat' is foam filled with a flap on either end of the front with a stud fitting, and a metal lined strip at the other edge presumably to fit into some sort of channel, presumably more cosmetic than an effective seat. [/QUOTE]

Jack,
Here is a poor picture of what has been called the kid's seat?
Maybe this is an armrest?

I can't imagine that's for a bugeye. If it is, it may be in the running with the Tornado fuel saver as the most useless auto accessory in history. Smaceng, that's not the child's seat, it's an aftermarket armrest. As JPS said, the child seat looks just like a regular bugeye bucket seat, but about 1/3 the size. It has u-shaped brackets on the bottom that fit over the rear of the transmission tunnel. The brackets could be bolted to the tunnel. Like the bugeye, there were no seat belts to keep the lad in place. Putting a kid in one today would have you arrested by Child Protective Services.

A picture can be seen in the google books preview of the Horler book Orginal Sprite. I'm glad our youngest is 11 and would never be able to fit in one. Link Original Sprite

My oldest son set in one of those seats for three years in the mid 1960s.

That BE had the rear deck cut out like the later models. Came to me that way used.
