Project Update .....

Sorry for appearing that I've entered the witness protection program lately, but work is crazy and going full bore on the restoration project. I've received a few emails from my BCF friend's inquiring about my project .....

I was able with the help of a good friend to remove the old 1098 engine and tranny (rib case). I am having a 1275 being rebuilt and matching it with my tranny. (also new clutch, timing chain, tweak some performance items to "Cooper S standard", upgrade to handle unleaded gasoline)

I am also tackling a few items "while I'm at it" ....

A) Upgrade to Negative Groung
B) Petronix Ignition / Plus / Wires
C) Upg to 3.9 Differential (from 4.22, I think)
D) Improved Headlamp Sys / Fuse Box (to accomodate lights)
E) Misc Front End Work (all OLD !!)
F) Oil Cooler & Thermostat / Spin On Oil Filter Kit
G) Add Seat Belts
H) Grease Up / Clean Up / Change any & all fluids

It sure is a darn big list. I think I need a beer first (no just kidding). My goal is to have a driver my April 1st and put on ~ 10k miles next summer.

Just to think -- 12 months ago I couldn't point to the cylinder head of any car -- now I am well along a major updating project.

Thanks to all for making me feel that I am not alone on this.

What does "D) Improved Headlamp Sys " mean you are going to be doing?

Re: Project Update .....

Hi George
My project is a 1964 MkII also. I'm over in Pittsburgh.
I'm a little ahead of you . Have already done the neg ground, alternatior, fuse panel, relays for lights.
Right now I am puting a Datsun 5 sp in it.
I am keeping my 1098 motor for now . It was rebuilt not to long ago. I also have a 1275 that needs rebuilt, and someday will be going into the car.. My car will be a driver this summer to . will have to try and meet up sometime.

Well for me it's a weekend's worth of work.
Glad to see another one hitting the road soon.
I need to sell a few, I now have 4 LBCs on the road!

Frank --

Glad to hear your so quick -- many on this earth have accused me of being slow, glad the title transfers to the garage as well :<))

Tullamore --

You asked about the "upgraded headlights". What I plan on doing is a number of "electrical upgrades" to be able to handle some higher wattage lights (similar to what you & I have in our "new cars").

A) My car is a 1964 -- negative ground. I've been told -- it is a wise & relatively inexpensive move to change over to negative ground (USA standard) for ease of adding after mkt items such as bigger lights, radio, etc ...

B) Switch from generator to an altenator. I'm sketchy here -- from what some nice guys have told me here on BCF is that an alt kicks out more juice and is smaller (& newer technology; i.e. it's what you have in your car today).

C) Now to the lights themselves. Via the winter catalog of JC Whitney (or go to the back index of any JCW catalog)-- go to pg 141 for a 7" "kit" for $40, Pg 138 for "H1" bulbs (brighter and go up on the watts -- like if you wanted something brighter in you house -- I haven't deceided on what style -- 100W or 130W from 30W or 40W I suspect in the car now. (10 - 20 /pr.)

The kit is the "housing unit" The bulbs go into the housing (remember your new car analogy)

D) You'll need a recepticle of sorts to plug the light bulbs into. Haven't found those in the cat. yet -- Will call and get help or go to NAPA.

E) Wiring to Fuse Box (14 ga has been recommended).

F) Upgrade Fuse Box -- "while I'm at it" (Pg 200: ~ $15)

G) Wiring to switch on dash and I'm sure to the battery or alt. I'll have a friend help me and we can work this out.

Hope I answered this. Have fun and post Q's or e-mail me if you need a hand. I've found that all are extremely helpful here.

Merry Christmas --

George Zeck
