No, that is a real P-51. It was completely disassmebled and is being rebuilt. They made - yes made - a brand new wing for it.

The only difference between men and boys is the size and price of the toys.....

And the garages needed to store them in.

.... Wowzer...and you think fixing a LBC is expensive and time consuming.

I'll second that! I am guessing you could buy a concurs LBC (or 2 or 3) for the price of that new wing!!

Skip-

Are you friends with the builder(s)? I'm curious if any of 'the greatest generation' is involved with it, or is their offspring taking on the challenge? That's a beautiful plane.

What a lovely thing it is! Pleasant to see one being hauled from the ashes. Here's hope it lives forever.

Tom,

You should post that in "The Pub",
unless there's a Triumph connection.
Very nice,BTW.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the planes. There was a very tragic crash here in Chandler Az about 6 weeks ago involving a P 51 (Su Su) that was fatal to the pilot. I watched the plane fly over our maintenance yard just moments before the crash. The first plane I heard fly over was a Hellcat, then the P 51. Minutes later I heard on the news that there was a plane crash at an local airport that I knew the plane was housed. Very sad story, a great person and plane were lost. Things change so fast, enjoy the moment.

I used to go by Green airport in Warwick RI on my way home nights. One Friday there was a P51D parked by the exec hangers. They completely disassembled it like a model and fit the whole thing in a semi trailer. It's name was the "Luscious Lisa"

BTW - what I didn't get a picture of, because it was moving too fast, was a F-86 they were doing shake down runs in as prep for the annual air show. I'd never seen one actually flying before, pretty neat. (did I just say neat?)

Very nice P-51. And I had heard about the crash of SuSu.....a irreplaceable loss. We lost a private F86 Sabre at South Jersey Regional Airport about 10 years ago.

We have a Corsair nearby (Sussex Airport), plus plenty of of old civilian stuff (including my '41 Aeronca, or course). There is a Cub at 12N that was active in Italy in WW II....I've actually flown it. Neat.

For any of you on the east coast who like old British cars and old airplanes, our club will host the New Jersey Historic Races, NJMP Millville, NJ, on Sept, 24, 25. This event will be combined with the MAAFM 2010 Air Show (at Millville Airport which is next door---they'll provide shuttles).

We did this in '08 and it was the bee's knees....with a Spitfire, Mustang, Goony Bird, PBY, B-25, lots of Texans and even some Aeronca L3s (tried to do it in '09 but a variety of factors prevented it). Anyway, we're on for '10, if anyone wants to see a great car/plane show.

Here's ~a link~ to photos from the '08 show.

Picture from '08.

I had the privilege of being at the (then) confederate air force's air show in southern TX in the early 80's.
b-29 with a flight of 8 or 10 P-51's. It's a sound I still remember.
