I'm taking apart Red's engine to get the block to the machine shop and found the source of my VSN.

Strangely enough the engine number has an HE suffix indicating a high compression engine but it has dished pistons. I expected flat pistons. The Spit engine from Whitey has flat ones. Anyone know what a Dolemite 1500 H should have that's different from a US catalytic converter Spit 1500

did it come from thrust washers or is that a rod I see?

That's the No.2 rod bearing.

Eric, your project seems to have cured Ian of his "I hate Robyn's Spitfire" syndrome (or at least interested him enough to temporarily forget it).

He's now talking about hitting a local junkyard to pick up a spare Spitfire engine so that we can work on rebuilding it as time and money allow...

Robyn, I'm glad something good is coming out of this. The only thing worse than having a broken Triumph is having two broken Triumphs. At least I'll have a really good engine and I'll know exactly what's in it when I'm done.
