Sliding bottom windshield seal into groove...

** Edit **
You know how it goes. You post a question, which makes you think more, and you solve your problem. See my solution/answer at bottom of post...

I'm replacing the glass and seals on my windshield, and am somewhat stuck on sliding the bottom seal into the dovetail groove on the bottom. Even with some judicious application of lubricant, I can only get it on about half way before any progress is measured in 1/16"-1/8" increments

A) Should it really be this hard to do?

B) Any suggestions?

Fortunately the seal provided (ala MOSS) is much longer than necessary, so I can grab one end with a vicegrips. I had been wondering about tying down the other end and to essentially stretch the whole piece to make the rubber get smaller. That said, I keep thinking either there's a special tool, or it's just not supposed to be that hard.

** ANSWER **
Use far more dish soap in the track and on the rubber piece than you think you need to use. Also a vice grip to hold onto the end of the rubber piece helps immensely (as long as it doesn't slip off).

I took the windshield apart on my '68, undid the 6 Posaidrive Screws, slide out the old rubber and slid in the new. I used an impact screwdriver to get the screws ubnstuck with a Posidrive Bit and it was no big deal. BE Windshields are different. YMMV on htis one however and removing those screws is at your own risk. Plenty on PB Blaster ahead of time, Posi Drive Bit and the Impact Screwdriver did it for me.
