TR2/3/3A bottom gearbox cover with HDVA conversion

I'm installing the HDVA conversion, and the clutch cover doesn't seem to fit below or over the flywheel . OIts very hard to get a picture of this, but I think what is happening is the cover is hitting the bolt that connects the flywheel to the ring gear . Has anyone run into this? Maybe the cover is just misshapen.

No help as I have done two TR4's and a TR3 without such an issue.

Herman is great! I called him before I posted this, but its a little hard to explain the issue without pictures, so I was hoping someone might have run into this exact issue. I ordered the stainless cover from moss, hoping mine was just altered a bit and if that doesn't work ill go over it in more detail with him. The cover should be pretty close to that flywheel, correct? I'm not installing it wrong?

Aaron,
I just went out and looked at a TR3 flywheel on the shelf. The bolt heads for the ring gear sit proud maybe 1/10" ( did not measure it). Underneath that bolt head is a very thin locking tab. Did somebody possibly remove that locking tab and replace it with a lockwasher? That would make the bolt head stick out two to four tenths inch more than it should be.

I had the same problem on my tr4a hvda conversion. The bolts on the ring gear scored a mark on the cover where it hit and I used a hammer to "adjust" the cover till it fit.

I've had this problem with a stock cover and stock TR Transmission. Cover in my case was slightly dented and needed straightened. Doubt that's your problem but there is not much clearance between them. Maybe shim the cover out some.

I had to read the entire thread to figure out it was the inspection cover, thinking it was the pressure plate aka clutch cover. Yeah, the inspection covers often need tweaking, especially if you reverse them but more often than not a little bending away from the flywheel is necessary.

This really has nothing to do with HDVA. It's common fitment issue w/o the conversion. Joe Alexander (A.R.E.) used to/probably still does make a stainless replacement if yours is very warped.

I believe that two the three conversions that I have done have Joe's replacement cover over them. So maybe that is why i have not had the problem.
