Header Question

Spring is coming and a young man's thoughts turn to cars. (as if they ever leave)

Ebay has a couple of Patriot Headers (including one from Summit) the flange thickness is listed as 5/16" - how does that compare to the intake manifold? I understand that the pace headers (among other issues) are too thin.

I do not know, but it is pretty easy to make stepped washers.

JP, from what I've heard there is little to no noticible gain from stock to a header on the 1500. Plus, you'll have more underhood heat too. Pacesetter is owned by Pertronix.

It's not really for gain. Mostly to clean up the exhaust system. gets rid of the remains of the Catalytic converter and, when I was reassembling the car the exhaust was touching the body so we got it bent - too far - so the whole exhaust hangs too low and the exhaust pipe is getting to its last legs so, am thinking that before the 50th even, I might get a header, stainless exhaust and of course the Harley Muffler. Actually the Patriot header is my second choice as I have an email out to see if I can source a Bell stainless one.

We've measured numerous manifolds and header flanges to get things close in the racing world. 5/16" is the right thickness for A-series headers. Manifolds measure anywhere from 0.306 to 0.315" thick, depending upon casting number and type. We run into most of a problem when modifying MGB manifolds to go on the 1275. Sometimes TIG repairs and build ups and then machining down is required. Should not be a problem on a 1275 stock manifold.

Most cheapy street stuff has primary header pipes too short to make any real improvements. Primary pipe lengths should be in the 25"+ range to get any real torque improvements.

The only real cheapy method I've found to get around the high cost of an LCB for a Spridget from any USA supplier is to buy one for a Mini out of the UK and then cut and modify it for a Spridget. I've built tunnel exhaust systems for my race car doing it that way. If you have a MIG, a hacksaw and patience, that's the way to go. Use 0.023" wire in the MIG, buy a few extra 45's and 90's in mild steel from Summit/Jegs and start fabbing.

HTH,
Mike Miller

here is the answer

Thanks for the enquiry, sadly Bell do not make a stainless header for this car, they only offer a full system which would be ready in about 2-3 weeks.
:cryin:
