Glass Windscreen for my 1961 BugEye

My 1961 BugEye is in very good condition and almost orginal since I purchased it in 1964 from the orginal owner. It had 18,000 miles when I became the proud owner. Now the glass in the windscreen has a small crack in the lower right side and I am going to replace the glass. I would appreciate any suggestions as to the best way to accomplish this task and what to avoid. Thanks for your comments. I have the new glass and note that the frame rubber has two pieces? Since I have not removed the old glass I wonder why the two rubber parts one this is about 1/4 inch in diameter. If I can figure out how to post a picture of the car I will do so. Thanks again.

The smaller rubber is the interlock which expands the main rubber gasket to hold in the glass.
You can do this at home but I prefer to take all the parts to a auto glass shop, one that has been around, not a chain store and they will be glad to help (for a fee) or at least some beverages. They have the tools and a large enough work table to do this.
Personally, I have never done this at home. I know the local glass shop owner quite well and he installs Bugeye windshields for a box of donuts.
I will be bringing him the 2nd one since November. he might charge me this time :wink:

I HAVE done this at home and would agree with spritenut!! It is a PITA and I did wind up with a small crack in the lower passenger-side corner anyway!!! If I ever have to do it again, I won't! I'll give it to a pro!!

Thanks for the "I have done it" comments. I will strongly consider taking it to a windshield shop for the glass installation.
