hello all, hope someone can shed some light on my problem, finally got my 74 midget out on the road and drove about 40 mile round trip, by the time I got home the front brakes were almost locked up, I rebuilt the calipers about a month ago drained and flushed the lines at that time and used silicone fluid and new pads, also installed a new mc, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks alan

It sounds like the flex lines\rubber hoses to me.

Improper adjustment of the return for the brake master piston, or plugged drain-back valve in the brake master.

I would tend to agree with GeeBee1! I have experienced the same problem. The hoses looked good on the outside, but had collapsed internally! Glen could also be correct if adjustments had been made to the master push rod, but if not I would definitly suspect the hoses!

sorry, I did not mention that i replaced all the lines. also after i pulled the car back into the garage and jacked up the front of the car and it cooled down they spun just like there was never a problem.

what just happend to me was that the brake light switch was too far in and that kept the brakes from releasing all the way

Okay,

This is a huge debate and I have steered bake to synthetic. Another can of worms is about to be opened, but take it for what it is worth.

Supposedly silicone brake fluid can swell the rubber bits inside the system and cause your symptoms. i.e. lock the calipers up.

I have had MANY problems with my brake build, trying to use silicone. Everyone I have talked to, that rebuilds these brakes, will not warranty if silicone is used.

I have used it for over 25 years and never had a problem, I guess that I am really lucky
